Discussions about self-confidence, defending oneself. Discussions related to anti-bullying, diversity, and kindness.
“WILL SOMEONE PLAY BLUEY?” is a playful picture book perfect for children, ages 4-10. The book, written in rhyme and rhythm, explores the concepts of self-confidence and standing up for yourself. Ivers also wrote the book after her son experienced bullying on the school bus.
“I was proud to see him return the next day and stand up for himself,” says Ivers. “This inspired me to want to write something that would help children not only feel better if they had been the victim of bullying but would also help children understand the impact of bullying and the importance of recognizing and celebrating our differences.” Ivers hopes that, through the lessons presented in the book, parents and educators can explore discussions on anti-bullying, diversity and being kind.

I got this book because my granddaughter had a bully in her class last year. Mind you, this was second grade. She didn’t want to tell the teacher because she didn’t want to be a tattle tail and so she tried asking him politely to stop. He did, and then he pushed her.
I had had enough of this little boy. I told her she had to tell the teacher when it happens, so the teacher can call in his parents. She did, and the teacher did, but the little boy didn’t listen. Thankfully, he is not in her class this year. I gave her the book to read, and she loved it! My granddaughter is pretty intelligent for an 8-year-old. She said she was going to do what’s in the book if anyone tried to bully her this year.
This light-hearted tail of the blue violin brings a great message in our often troubled times. Blurt has the smarts, just needs to be himself, and bring color, song and understanding to those around him. Spread the word and be kind.
Thanks for reading 🙂
